The story of a Swift Student Challenge Distinguished Winner

Today, we are excited to share the story of Xingyu Lu (陆星宇), an Apple developer and a Swift Student Challenge Distinguished Winner. Xingyu’s journey began with a simple question that came to him during a class: Why can’t Apple Pencil be used for gaming? What started as a moment of curiosity turned into a deep exploration of human–computer…

About MacDigest

Apple and tech, distilled into news.

MacDigest is an independent publication devoted to Apple and the technology that surrounds it. We cover the products, the software, the decisions, and the consequences: what was announced, what actually shipped, what changed beneath the surface, and what any of it means for the people who rely on these machines every day.

Our coverage spans the full arc of the Apple ecosystem. We report on new hardware and the silicon inside it, on the operating systems and the frameworks developers build upon, and on the services and platforms that tie them together. We follow the developer world closely — the APIs, the tools, the annual changes that reshape how software is made — alongside the machine-learning and on-device intelligence now woven through every product. We cover the business and the decisions behind it: the strategy, the market, the regulation. And we keep one eye on the past, because the arc of this company, from its earliest machines to the present, is often the best guide to where it is going next.

The publication takes its name seriously. A digest is not a feed, and it is not a wire. It is the result of someone sitting down with everything that happened, discarding what does not matter, verifying what does, and presenting the remainder in a form worth a reader’s limited time. That is the entire editorial method of this site. The technology press produces an extraordinary volume of words every day, much of it repetition, speculation, or noise dressed as urgency. We would rather publish one piece that holds up a week later than ten that expire by evening.

Independence

MacDigest is written and edited independently. We hold no financial relationship with Apple or with any company we cover. No manufacturer reviews our work before publication, supplies us with talking points, or purchases favorable treatment, and none ever will. Where a future article involves any material connection, a review unit on loan, for instance, that connection will be disclosed plainly within the article itself.

Errors, when they occur, are corrected visibly and without excuses. A publication asking for a reader’s trust owes that reader a record of when it was wrong.

Who writes this

MacDigest was founded on July 6, 2026 by Jiaxu Li, who serves as Head of MacDigest and writes and edits the site at macdigest.news. He can be reached at lijiaxudeapple@icloud.com, and his personal work is at https://jiaxuli.com.

Jiaxu is a developer who builds software for Apple’s platforms and contributes to Apple’s open-source community. He has created events within the ecosystem, and his work has given him a close study of Apple’s core technologies. That background informs the coverage: when we write about an API, we have usually called it; when we write about the hardware, we have usually opened it.
