Samurai Scribe 0.61.0 Changes the Vault Format

Samurai Scribe 0.61.0, released October 15, changes its transcript format and adds optional hosted AI models. Check shared vaults and model choices before updating.

Update every shared-vault computer

Opening an existing vault converts older transcripts to timestamp-and-speaker headings. Earlier app versions cannot read the new transcripts or find meetings moved into subfolders. The release notes tell users sharing a vault to update every computer that accesses it.

Make a complete vault backup before the first opening as a precaution, including hidden folders. Keep it separate from the working copy. The release notes do not document an automatic backup or downgrade procedure.

Check the hidden folder

The hidden .samurai folder now holds projects, assistant memory, automations, connections and folder rules. The developer warns that Obsidian Sync does not carry it.

Check hidden-folder coverage separately from whether meeting notes arrive.

Review model choices and Mac support

Transcription and speaker detection remain local. Summaries, dictation polish and the assistant can use a hosted model you select; the first choice explains the recipient and content. Beta Connections have per-action controls: off, ask first or allow.

The website and network disclosure still make broader no-upload claims. For this version, the release notes are the more specific guide. Review the selected model before processing confidential material.

The system requirements list Apple silicon and 8GB RAM, with no Intel build. System-audio capture needs macOS 13 or later; microphone recording and file imports also work on macOS 12. MacDigest has not installed or tested this build.
