Apple estimates U.S. out-of-warranty service for iPhone Duo inner-display damage at $999, subject to inspection, tax and possible shipping charges.
Apple’s U.S. repair estimator now lists $999 for iPhone Duo inner-display damage and $1,499 for other damage outside warranty coverage. With preorders opening October 16, the figures add an ownership-cost check to the phone’s $1,999 starting price.
What Apple estimates for each repair
The $49 cover-layer category is separate from full inner-display damage. Apple’s current U.S. estimates are:
| Service | Out-of-warranty estimate |
|---|---|
| Cover layer damage | $49 |
| Back glass damage | $199 |
| Battery service | $229 |
| Rear camera damage | $229 |
| Outer display damage | $379 |
| Outer display and back glass damage | $509 |
| Inner display damage | $999 |
| Other damage | $1,499 |
Apple determines the final charge after inspection. Tax and shipping may add to the bill, and Apple Authorized Service Providers can set their own out-of-warranty prices.
What AppleCare changes
For covered accidental damage, Apple lists service fees of $19 for cover-layer-only damage, $29 for outer-display or back-glass damage, and $99 for inner-display or other accidental damage. These charges are separate from the price of the AppleCare plan and may be taxed.
The $0 battery service applies when capacity falls below 80% of its original level. A $149 theft-or-loss deductible applies only with coverage that includes those events. Find My must be enabled when the device goes missing and remain enabled through the claim.
Service method matters too. Apple’s terms put accidental-damage Express Replacement Service in the other-accidental-damage fee category, rather than the lower screen-only or back-glass-only categories.
Put the numbers in context before checkout
The standard one-year limited warranty covers manufacturing issues, alongside applicable consumer-law rights. A covered defect should not automatically be treated as an accidental-damage claim.
Before buying, check the selected plan’s price, term and exclusions, alongside the fee for the damage being considered. The repair list shows potential costs; it does not establish how likely the display is to fail or how the phone holds up over time.
