Two layout-encoding fixes in Interface Builder’s toolchain compilation mode. Diagram: MacDigest.
Apple released Xcode 27.2 beta 3 (27B5038j) on October 14. For UIKit projects using Interface Builder’s toolchain compilation mode, the update fixes two encoding bugs that could change the layout settings preserved in a build.
Two encoding fixes
Apple’s release notes identify two resolved issues in that compilation mode:
- Stack spacing: standard/system values for
UIStackView.spacingwere incorrectly encoded as zero. (186354589) - Button insets:
UIButton.Configuration.contentInsetsvalues were omitted from the encoded configuration. (187747632)
These properties shape different parts of a layout. A stack’s spacing controls the gap between arranged views. A button’s content insets add space around its content, beyond the inset supplied by its style. Losing those settings during compilation can therefore leave the running app with different layout inputs from the ones the developer intended.
The documented scope is toolchain compilation mode. Apple does not establish that projects using other Interface Builder compilation modes were affected.
Rebuild, then compare the running app
For projects using that mode, rebuild the affected Interface Builder resources with beta 3. Compare screens containing standard/system-spaced stacks and buttons with configured content insets against their intended layouts. Use the same runtime and device configuration for that comparison. Focus on the gaps between arranged views and the padding around button content.
That is a suggested regression check, based on Apple’s description of the encoding failures. We have not independently tested either fix.
Xcode 27.2 beta 3 requires macOS Tahoe 26.6 or later. For the wider operating-system test cycle, see our Apple 27.2 beta 4 developer checklist.
