Deep Review uses section-level analysis and a synthesis stage to critique complex documents. Original MacDigest illustration; not a product screenshot.
Google publicly launched Deep Review on October 14, extending its research-paper review system to technical design documents and other complex material. For Mac and iOS developers, the practical use is another pass over a design proposal or RFC: the written assumptions, architectural choices and edge cases that shape an implementation.
Review the reasoning
Google says the system divides a document into logical sections, assigns more computation to difficult material, and runs parallel reviews with access to the full document context. A synthesis stage combines the findings and checks consistency across sections.
That suggests a useful role in examining a proposed sync system or migration plan. Treat the resulting critique as questions to investigate. Human review and tests against the actual app are still needed to establish whether the implementation works.
Check the allowance and upload policy
The live product FAQ lists two complimentary reviews per week with a Google Account, using Gemini 4 Argon at its Medium setting. Additional reviews can use your own Gemini API key and incur token charges. That API route has separate regional and age requirements.
PDF input is documented. The launch announcement discusses Google Docs and presentations, but we have not verified native Docs or Slides import.
The live product says documents stay private and are retained for up to one year. Users can separately opt in to let the research team use their data to improve Deep Review; its security text says model training requires permission. The announcement’s blanket no-improvement language leaves out that choice. Check the live policy and sharing choice before uploading. Confidential or third-party material needs the appropriate permission first.
Antigravity has a separate review route
Google also introduced a Deep Review-inspired document review pattern in Antigravity. Its Teamwork documentation lists a Document Review path for papers, RFCs and design docs, invoked through /teamwork-preview on paid plans in the Antigravity app and CLI.
The Antigravity workflow is separate from the Deep Review website. We have not tested account eligibility, uploads or review quality hands-on.
